Background Information:

Jeffrey was born in Genese, Batavia, New York circa 1949, to Stanley Edward Butler, a returned American serviceman (son of Frank Butler and Mary (May) Norris) and Hazel Jean Milham, an Australian. Stanley and Hazel were married in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, where one son, Harry, was born.
Stanley was injured in the course of his was duties, and repatriated back to America, where he was when peace was declared.
Hazel left Brisbane for America in 1946, leaving behing their son, Harry, in the care of his grand-mother.
A daughter Lynette Jean Butler was born in Genese, Batavia circa 1947.

Yvonne married a dutch airman in WWII and had twins. He died. She remaried J.H. Thesingh (who was previously married in 1943 to Cettien Macevoy and there was a daugther named Tian). Thesingh died in l965. Yvonne died 15.11.00. She (Yvonne was my mother) had twin sisters about ten years younger called Betty? and Fay? Family lived in Newcastle NSW at 53 Castlereagh Street.

William Young, fathered a child (Clarence William Young) in 1896 with Keziah Hall. Kezia was a widow at the time and although Clarence's birth certificate says William & Kezia married, this was not so. Clarence was born in Maryborough, Vic & William was the informant for the birth registration. He gave his age at 38 years, occupation bricklayer & place of birth St Talbot, England. Nobody knows what happened to William as he seems to have disappeared.

Background Information:

Charles Erwood emigrated to New Zealand in early 1914.He enlisted in the NZ Army at the outbreak of WWI and served at Gallipoli before being invalided home in January 1916. He married Cara SARGISSON in 1920 and they had two children. He disappeared in March 1936 and was never heard of again by any member of his family, either in NZ or the UK. He was 44 years old when he disappeared, his height was about 5'9" and he was of medium build with light brown wavy hair, blue eyes and a brown birthmark on one wrist. He also had tattoo-marks on one or both forearms and he wore spectacles. He was a garage proprietor before his disappearance and prior to that had been a sheep farmer in NZ and a ship's steward sailing out of London.He was 'believed' to have gone to Australia and may have worked on sheep or cattle stations after his arrival.

Does anyone have a father or grandfather who was unusually secretive about his past and who might have fitted the above description? If he re-married and had more children it would have been after March 1936. For many years his granddaughter has been searching for evidence of his life after that date. Marriage rec. # 437 in 1902 at Mincha, Victoria to
Mary CAMPBELL. The marriage breakup was as follows, A cousin recalls that Jack apparently brought home a girl and introduced her to Mary as his cousin May Taylor who was looking for work. She stayed with them for about 2 years until Mary ran into May?s brother, Fred while in Melbourne one day. He was surprised to hear that May was with them as he had seen May a few weeks before up country. It transpired that the unknown lady was Jack?s lover who had been living in the same house all that time, and this was the cause of the marriage break-up. In recorded reminiscences by my father prior to his death in 1987, he stated that his last recollection was of his father at the Prahran (Vic) police courts when my father (born 1903) was about 15 years of age. His recollections do not indicate if this was before or after the war ended.
